Anthropomorphic meditations on the edible plant world

We are what we eat. The closest relationship of all is that with the food we eat; it becomes us. These images are part of an ongoing series of responses to the fruit and vegetables bought from my local shops in Leeds. The fact that many of them are 'not from around here' reflects current global issues of not only environmental concerns over distribution networks but also the fact that every city is a home for multicultural communities and food is one of the ways that these communities can maintain their own cultural identities.

Some of these images are direct observational drawings of fruit and vegetables before they are cut up, cooked and eaten. They represent the fact that I can give no better honorific value to these wonderful things than by simply looking at them long enough to draw them.

The other images are what dreams are made of if you spend too much time drawing fruit and vegetables.
